“It’s just not fair,” I sighed. “What is it?” my friend asked, looking vaguely concerned. It was stupid but I told her. “The world is too beautiful and it’s just not fair that I will never get to see it all.”
With so many beautiful places to visit around the globe, it is tempting to simply tick a destination off in your travel journal and move on, never giving it a second glance. After all, why should you revisit some places when you still haven’t seen a million others? In our fast-paced world of time constraints and deadlines, it is no surprise that we often try to impose similar restrictions when it comes to down time. But, to me, travel is all about exploring different cultures and experiencing new emotions. And you know what? Both those things take time.
That is why I have decided to put together a list of five destinations which merit at least two visits, if not more. Sometimes a place’s charm is so intricate that it will take a few dates before you finally give in and fall head over heels in love with it. Sometimes a place is simply too multifaceted for you to understand it in one go. Whatever the reason, here are my picks!
Here’s a little quiz! Did you look at the picture above and immediately think “oh, that’s New York”? If your answer was “no”, you could probably do with a few more visits of this wild metropolis. There is simply no way you could ever comprehend the city’s cacophony of car horns and high heels clacking on concrete in one go. There are enough sights and characters in New York for a lifetime of exploration!Oh, you’re still wondering about that photo? Those whimsy English dwellings are located on the Upper West Side in a gated community on Pomander Walk. If you manage to get in somehow, you might even bump into Humphrey Bogart or Woody Allen, both of whom own houses there.
“The city seen from the Queensboro Bridge is always the city seen for the first time, in its first wild promise of all the mystery and beauty in the world.” (F. Scott Fitzgerald)
