I absolutely adore American dinners, but not for the reasons most people do. Juicy burgers and strawberry milkshakes? Only if they come with a side of kitsch!
Luckily for me, the Beverly Hills Diner chain in Moscow helps me fulfill my monthly kitsch quota – their six restaurants all come with over-the-top 50s decor, rock’n’roll vibes and even Pulp Fiction-esque booths shaped like muscle cars! That’s two exclamations in one paragraph, so you can probably tell how much I adore the diner’s furnishing.
Seriously, look at that sweet ride! Well, what are you waiting for? Hop in and read this Beverly Hills Diner Moscow review to go on a terrific/calorific ride… The burgers are on me, so don’t be shy!
I went for a good ol’ traditional hot dog (180 RUB) and it was, well, a good ol’ traditional hot dog, complete with pickles, fried onions and fries. Beverly Hills Diner isn’t a gourmet restaurant – it’s a cute little gimmicky chain with cute little hostesses in 50s-inspired uniforms and, for whatever reasons, clapperboards tucked behind their tiny aprons. In a place like this the food is secondary, which is not to say it isn’t delicious.
My friend had the cheeseburger (360 RUB), which was juicy and big. It came about 20 minutes after my food, which was slightly annoying, but that’s extremely commonplace in Russia. Again, it would be forgettable if eaten in a nondescript hole in the wall, but munching on it next to a statue of Elvis feels extraordinary. Did I mention they let you design your own burger?
I’ve been to the place quite a few times so here are a few other things you have to know. Firstly, they serve all-you-can-eat pancakes (240 RUB) all day long. Now, this is not always true because Russian restaurants have a tendency to just “run out” of extremely common things – I’ve been denied gin (understandable), coke (weird) and bread (inexplicable) in various places during my 5 months in Moscow. But if the offer is on, it’s well worth knowing about.
Secondly, they have an amazing cocktail selection – Mad Men inspired cocktails, Hollywood star inspired cocktails (I recommend their Desi Arnaz!), and even one-and-a-half-litre party cocktails (1,600-2,100 RUB). And lastly, their milkshakes are delicious! At 320 RUB they’re a little overpriced, but they’re huge and did I mention they were absolutely incredible? My favourite is the Snickers-flavoured one. And I don’t even like milkshakes.Alright, you can take your eyes off the plate now. Come on, look around!
Isn’t it beautiful? Yes, yes it is. If you’re even in Moscow, you should pay Beverly Hills Diner a visit. You might even run into me there – and if you do, I’ll buy you a milkshake! Girls like me don’t make invitations like this to just anyone, you know? And yes, that is a quote from Pulp Fiction, you crazy kid. Correct-a-mundo, darling.
