My stay in Vienna is slowly nearing its inevitable end and I’ve been trying to fit in as many activities as my little self can handle. Vienna is one of the most cultured cities I’ve ever had the pleasure of visiting and its museums are among the best I’ve ever seen. The Albertina, a museum in the heart of its central district, has exhibitions which can easily compete on the international art scene. I visited just in time to see their beautiful display of Henri Matisse’s works from his brief affair with Fauvism.
Knowing that I was in for such a colourful treat, I couldn’t help but try to fit in. Looking like a slightly confused canvas of les Fauves, I walked around the gallery pondering the meaning of life and thinking about pizza. Art makes me hungry – not just in the metaphorical way of longing for wisdom, but in the much-more-human way of longing for food. A lot of it. Pizza, pizza, pizza… I’m sorry, darling, you were saying? I think I better get going now – I’m going for lunch in Naschmarkt today and I have to calm down, meditate and decide what I want to eat.
